Montana is a big state, and it is impossible to truly depict the grandeur and beauty of even a small part of it. We are providing a few pictures taken across Northwestern Montana in various seasons so you can begin to understand what a wonderful place the Crown of the Continent really is. Unfortunately, pictures and words cannot even begin to convey what you have to personally experience if you are to fully appreciate Montana.
One friend came to visit for a few days from Oregon, a land of plenty and not a bad place at all. Three days is all it took for him to get a wondrous feeling of being at home, and when it came time for him to leave, he mourned the anticipated loss of something special. Whatever it is about this place, it's fast acting!
You will find pictures here of Flathead Lake, the largest natural fresh-water lake west of the Mississippi. These photos will draw you to boating, water-skiing, fishing, swimming. While you should not expect to see the Flathead Lake Monster, some of the lake trout you can catch are monstrous!
Glacier National Park is a magical place. Some folks drive through it once, and never feel the need to return. But you will be captivated by the intense beauty and solitude. One gentleman from Oregon, a professional photographer, returned more than fifty times to capture a photo of Goose Island in Saint Marys Lake. You'll find a couple of photos of that island here, one of them taken side-by-side with this photographer. The difference that day was that I took two photos in two minutes, and he maybe took two hundred over a period of several hours. I'm happy, he's happy, and I'm sure you will enjoy my photo more than his, because you will never see his.
Just so you don't feel like the east side of Montana is being neglected, we'll include some from that side of the world, also. Be patient, and enjoy a few snapshots of Montana you've never seen before!
